MICHAEL O'CONNELL

Chairperson

Michael O’Connell is the Chairperson of the Cork Anti Poverty Resource Network. Recently retired, Michael brings over 30 years of experience as a qualified solicitor, with a specialisation in litigation, employment law, and medical negligence. He trained as a CEDR accredited mediator in 2004 and has since remained active in governance and community engagement.


In the earliest days of CAPRN, when it was known as the Cork Combat Poverty Resource Centre, Michael became involved as a volunteer, joining many like-minded lawyers in providing free legal assistance to the community. He continued his involvement over the years, ultimately joining the Board in 2020.


Throughout his career, Michael has held numerous board appointments, including with the Cork Film Festival, the Cork Family Planning Clinic Limited, and the Triskel Arts Centre, reflecting his longstanding commitment to civic and cultural life in Cork.


In his personal time, Michael enjoys playing golf, film, and literature.
