MISSION STATEMENT

TO FOSTER HIGH QUALITY LIFELONG LEARNING IN AN INCLUSIVE, RESPECTFUL ENVIRONMENT, EMPOWERING LEARNERS IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY TO PROGRESS THEIR EDUCATION AND ASSIST THEM TO REACH THEIR PERSONAL, SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC GOALS.

Write Together Adult Literacy Scheme is a constituent group of Cork Anti Poverty Resource Network Clg. (CAPRN) and is supported by the resources of the network and the Cork Education & Training Board. Write Together continues to provide and expand its range of provisions for the northwest communities of the city with a catchment area covering Churchfield, Gurranabraher, Knocknaheeny, Hollyhill, Sunday’s Well, Blarney St. and part of Shandon St. We also have responsibility for Farranree, Fair Hill, Parklands and part of Blackpool.

Write Together espouses a philosophy of empowerment, where the work is carried out to support individuals and communities to access their own strengths and abilities and encourage them to use these abilities for personal and community empowerment. As with all the projects of the Network, Write Together is run on the basis of equality between adult learners and helpers/ tutors. Adults attending our courses learn in an atmosphere that is friendly, relaxed and encouraging. They learn at their own pace with the learning designed to suit their needs. The work takes place in groups of 6 – 8 learners with individual support from trained volunteers. Learners are supported, (when they have progressed to the required level and are ready) to achieve QQI (Quality and Qualifications Ireland) accreditation. We recognise that learning / teaching is not a neutral process; in a group people learn from each other as well as from the experts; decisions are reached democratically with learners and tutors having an equal say.
